Mamedyarov close to top 10

The World Chess Federation (FIDE) has disclosed a table of ELO ratings. The updated list of the world’s best 100 players for July includes five Azerbaijani grandmasters. The best Azerbaijani player is still Shakhriyar Mamedyarov who has advanced six steps and settling in 12th place with 2764 points.

Teimour Radjabov (2722) has dropped three steps to settle for 35th place. Another player of the national team Eltaj Safarli (2678) has also made progress: having advanced 11 steps, the Azerbaijani champion is now in 57th place. Azerbaijan’s naturalized player Arkadij Naiditsch (2667) has also improved on his previous standing. The grandmaster has overtaken 10 other players to reach 74th place. Rauf Mamedov, who was 98th in the previous rankings, has advanced to 75th place. He has 2666 points.

There is no change in top three places. The table is topped by Magnus Carlsen (Norway, 2855), Vladimir Kramnik (Russia, 2812) and Fabiano Caruana (USA, 2810).

No Azerbaijani women are ranked among the world’s best 100 players.
