Vidit Interview
Indian Grandmaster Vidit Santosh Gujrathi visited the Press Center after his win in the match between Indian and the 2nd team of Azerbaijan, to chat with Susan Polgar.
- Congratulations, how was your game?
Thanks! It was a good game; I played an old line and he was unprepared. At some point, instead of repeating moves he played a bad move, King to d3, and after that he was just lost.
- So far your team is leading in this match, you’re doing well (ed: India won 3-1). In the previous Olympiad the Indian team finished in a tie for second place, winning the bronze medals on tie-break. What’s the goal this year?
Yes, that was the best result ever – so far! – for India and we’re definitely try to have a podium finish (ie: in the top three). So far we started well: two 4-0s and this match we are winning as well; so far it’s going good!
- What’s your impressions of this Olympiad, compared to other Olympiads you have participated in?
Actually this is my very first Olympiad! I am very impressed; I think this is one of the very best organized tournaments. In fact, whenever I come to Azerbaijan the organization is always excellent.
- What’s your favorite thing so far here in Baku?
So far my points – my score is 100%! (laughs) That’s my favorite thing so far!
- That counts quite a bit! Good luck for your team, as well as yourself for the rest of the event. Thank you!
